Mozart for Munchkins is seeking a talented and engaging ballerina to join our musicians for select performances of Nutcracker Notes, our interactive holiday concert series for children and families in New York City.
About Nutcracker Notes
Nutcracker Notes is a magical performance that blends classical and jazz favorites, including beloved tunes from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. Sing along to familiar melodies, move to the rhythm, and marvel as a graceful ballerina brings the music to life, adding an extra layer of wonder.
About the Role
The ballerina will perform alongside our professional musicians, helping to bring the music to life through expressive movement. Unlike a traditional staged ballet performance, our concerts are highly interactive and place performers in close proximity to the audience. This gives children the opportunity to observe gesture, storytelling, musicality, and movement up close.
The dancer should be comfortable adapting choreography and movement to an intimate, family-focused concert environment and engaging young audiences through expressive, visually compelling performance.
Responsibilities
- Perform ballet and expressive movement during selections from The Nutcracker and other classical and jazz repertoire.
- Collaborate with our musicians and artistic team to coordinate movement with the musical program.
- Perform in close proximity to children and families in intimate concert settings.
- Use movement, gesture, and storytelling to help young audiences connect with the music.
- Maintain a warm, engaging, and professional presence throughout each performance.
Ideal Candidate
- Comfortable performing both choreographed and adaptable movement.
- Strong musicality and expressive performance skills.
- Enjoys working with children and families.
- Comfortable performing in nontraditional venues and close to the audience.
- Reliable, professional, and available for select dates throughout December in NYC.
Performances take place at venues throughout New York City, with specific dates, locations, rehearsal expectations, and compensation provided to selected candidates.
This is a wonderful opportunity for an emerging dancer to gain professional performance experience while helping introduce young children to the magic of ballet and live music.
