REQUIREMENTS
- Graduate of an accredited law school or currently enrolled law student who is available to work full time during required business hours.
- Demonstrated commitment to public interest is a plus.
- Appropriate experience in the use of Windows Software applications.
- Must successfully complete a criminal background investigation.
- General knowledge of criminal law and procedure.
GENERAL DEFINITION
Ideal candidate would be someone interested in a career in the law looking for greater exposure to the functioning of the judiciary. There is potential for job growth and additional work responsibilities, including trial work, legal research, and drafting opinions. Immediately after completion of law school or while obtaining a law degree. An employee in this class is directly responsible to and serves at the discretion of the appointing judge.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all- inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Legal research and opinion writing
- Provides all necessary logistical support for judge’s work in courtroom.
- Assist in maintaining chamber filing system.
- Manages judicial correspondence.
- Searches for and studies legal records and documents.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to synthesize large amounts of information into relevant parts, analyze with reference to relevant legal concepts, and present in a concise written document.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a self-directed fashion.
- Ability to learn and apply, within a reasonable period of time, the components and functions of criminal courtroom proceedings and related computer systems.
- Ability to learn trial procedures, rules, and regulations required to facilitate court proceedings.
- Ability to follow written and oral directions and to communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the members of the judiciary, attorneys, associates, employees, and the general public.
