Asset Preservation Advisors (“APA”), a municipal bond investment manager firm founded in 1989, is looking for a Credit Research Analyst to join its Credit Research Group. The primary function of the Credit Research Analyst position will be performing credit research and analysis of the municipal bond market, its data and trends, as well as key local, national, and global factors that may impact the municipal bond market. Candidate should be a self-starter, with a desire to work in a fast-paced environment where initiative, independent thought, leadership, professionalism, and a strong work ethic are highly valued. This position is a full-time position located in Atlanta, GA.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide timely evaluation of the fundamental credit quality of primary and secondary market offerings informed by fundamental credit and relative value views
- Provide timely, high quality, independent obligor updates and maintain a current view on focus industries and credits
- Monitor developments that affect the municipal market (legislation, rating agency views, court cases)
- Maintain the internal credit database including a review schedule for all credits
- Prepare and deliver presentations on key issues, such as topical industry information, credit specific analysis to be presented on firm wide calls
- Prepare and write research reports individually or with a team on credit specific topics
- Use information technology to identify, develop and maintain tools that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the firm’s investment decision making process
- Exhibit a high level of integrity, trustworthiness, reliability, and self-motivation
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or accounting is desirable but not required
- Current or historical experience (0-3+ years) in Municipal Credit Research a plus but not required
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Commitment and a proactive approach to accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to meet deadlines and respond to requests in a timely manner
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in making appropriate decisions on bond credit quality
- The candidate must have the ability to provide well-articulated, forward-looking fundamental credit views
- Intermediate to advanced skills using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Proficiency with industry standard research and data platforms and tools is desirable but not required
